You’ve Gotta Give Some to Yourself

“Abigail, you need to forgive yourself.”

I began realizing that it wasn't just in my head, and I started asking:

"How do I forgive myself? What is it that I need to forgive myself for?"

I've come to realize that the reason why I find it easier to forgive others but struggle to forgive myself is due to the standard in which I hold myself to, knowing my potential in contrast to my choices, and trusting myself.

It is in our imperfections that our true beauty and strength lies.

The Power of Being Present

Picture being present with the Lord as that memorable scene from Beauty and the Beast. When Belle comes down the stairs in her beautiful yellow dress and all she and the Beast notice are each other. They lock eyes, and in every movement they make are in sync. The couple seems to have been in a world that is entirely their own. This scene is as close to what it means to be present with the Lord in Disney terms.

[…]Sitting in his presence is more fulfilling, peaceful, loving, and healing than anything the world and people will ever give you.

[…]There is power in being still. Being tranquil in the presence of God strengthens us because we are present with the rock that never moves; hence, we are unshakable. Being present with the Lord causes us to discern effectively and confidently. Being able to be present with the Lord allows us to heal and perceive life and people the way that the Lord does. To be present with Christ will enable us to add more color ( I adore art) and depth in our relationship with the one, our soul loves the most. There is life, growth, freedom, peace, and consistent peace when we a present with our Father.

I Am Sorry

Healing is one of the hardest journeys I've ever had to go on, and it doesn't stop when the tears end.[…]

I've never exposed myself this much before this season of my life and these past 8 months, and it isn't easy. However, this adventure has been the most humbling and strengthen experience of my life. […]

it wasn't until I had said my goodbyes, driven 5 minutes away from camp, and played the beautiful song one camper dedicated to the experience, that I was able to let myself cry. […]

it is when you stop fighting the storm that you can sit in the eye of the hurricane and make it to the end so that you may witness the beautiful rainbow God has designed.

Does Self-Love Fit in With Christianity?

In an age of everyone prioritizing themselves and preaching self-love left and right, where does the word of God fit in?

Honestly, at what point does God say, "love yourself! Make yourself a priority. Work on you and your goals?"

He doesn't. Though I don't believe God is against the mentality behind what it means to live a life filled with self-love.

“To me, self-love is accepting that putting your needs first is a priority. This doesn’t mean you’re selfish; it means that you care enough about yourself to take your mental and physical health into account. This will allow you to take better care for the people around you. No one can perform self-love for you, so it’s important to be your own best friend.” (Taylor, 24)

People do not seek counseling help unless they have a desire to be better off than they are. This desire to be happier is what Jesus meant by self-love. Therefore, self-love, so defined, is the foundation, not the aim, of counseling; indeed, it is the foundation of all human life. For without it[,] there is no motivation, and without motivation[,] there is no action, and if we do not act[,] we die.

- John Piper

Slayin' & Slayed

Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him. He also shall be my salvation, For a hypocrite could not come before Him.

- Job 13: 15 (CSB)

[It is] integrity and faith (not works and actions) [that] pleases the Lord even in the midst of storms.

God doesn't need people to speak for him, he chooses to have his Word and his love vocalized through his servants. He's God, he knows what he's doing better than any of us will ever comprehend. Ask your artist what He's painting on the canvas of your life.

[…]No level of work, sacrifice, holiness, or anything you do will exempt you from being tried in your walk with Christ.

[…]You don't owe people an explanation, and you don't owe people jack when it comes to why you do things the way you do or what God is doing in your life.
