Flex That Spiritual Confidence
Last year, I shared with you guys why I believe self-love is a part of being a follower of Christ. Now I'm not completely revisiting that but if you haven't read that post here it is: Loving Yourself Is The Christian Thing To Do.
Now that we've established that self-love is part of being a follower of Christ, let's talk about spiritual confidence.
spir·it·u·al ( /ˈspiriCH(o͞o)əl/ ) adjective: spiritual
relating to or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.
con·fi·dence ( /ˈkänfədəns/ ) noun: confidence
the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust.
I have been prioritizing my self-care lately and I cannot thank you guys enough! You all have been following my journey sticking by with as I aim to make myself the healthiest I could ever be and I'm so blessed. I'm forever blessed and humbled by everyone's story and emails about how this is impacting y'all. But there's something new in making…
I noticed recently that my self-love was leading me into spiritual confidence and some spiritual understandings about who I am in Christ.
The more I choose to love who God has claimed me to be, the more I'm able to fully understand who I am. By doing so, I have begun to gain a sense of confidence that really doesn't make sense. In fact, if I tried to make sense of this level of confidence I'd probably be confused cause it's fresh.
See, it's not confidence in your self necessarily (confused yet? come on I've got you!) nor is confidence in your abilities on your own accord. Nah bruh, this is confidence in God. It's this bonafide (dang, I'm using some interesting words here, oh well.) understanding and belief that though you may be facing hell on earth and God's still got you.
A level of confidence such as this infects your understanding and knowledge of who God is. It contaminates your belief of the level and magnitude of (oh wow, who gave me a dictionary today?! Looks like English may just become my language after all…cough cough.) love and power that has been placed within you.
Oh yes, you heard me right! This is confidence that shakes your life up and intimidates the mess out of every obstacle you face. This is spiritual confidence. (Get now? It's coming full circle. I told you I got you!)
Are you shook yet? Well, you're about to be blown out of the water because guess what? This is a level of confidence that God has purposefully stored within you too! (Wow, I'm getting so giddy that I can't even sit still writing this post right now! I'm geeking out to the max over here!)
See, when God created you, he gave you some phenomenal gifts. One of them being your salvation of course (don't believe me? read all about The Best Decison I Ever Made ). Then while he was cooking up the essence of your identity, he threw in some ridiculously amazing gifts. He even threw in some of his very own personality (Genesis 1:26). But don't miss out on one key ingredient: spiritual confidence.
'Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”'
You guys actually read about one of my experiences with spiritual confidence in the post Bring It On; He's Got Me.
Remember those Scriptures when Isaiah flexed his spiritual confidence?
'But now, thus says the Lord , who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, And gather you from the west; I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, And My daughters from the ends of the earth— Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” Bring out the blind people who have eyes, And the deaf who have ears. Let all the nations be gathered together, And let the people be assembled. Who among them can declare this, And show us former things? Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified; Or let them hear and say, “ It is truth.”'
See, we go around acting like we're confused and don't know who we are. We act like we need other people to discover who we are so that we may be able to fully grasp the person we stare at in the mirror. Man, sometimes we get even radical and spend a ridiculous amount of money on relationships and trips so we can get some understand on who we are (don't get upset, I've done it too).
For real though. You are who He says you are. You have what He says you have. You will accomplish what He's predestined for you to achieve through Him. No person or thing, no matter how wonderful it may be, will ever be able to explain and help you fully understand who and whos you are except for God. (Now God does use people and experiences to help guide you understand of who you are but it's all on you and Jesus.)
This whole self-love thing starts, continues, and finishes with God. Do you remember that bible verse…oh what is called again? Right…
'And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord , and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord , and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. '
You are a child of God. Your identity, power, and destiny are all found in Him. You are his sheep. The only way you understand how strong you are, how beautiful you are, who you are, and what your purpose in life may be is by diving into who God is. By doing so, you are able to build your spiritual muscles so that when the storms come (which as long as you live it shall), all you've got to do is flex that spiritual confidence your father gave you (see what I did there. Man can I turn into a Jesus dork. It's awesome!)
Now excuse me and my ridiculous self as start dancing because man did God give us some dope spiritual confidence!
Until next time…
